Velocity Vortex (2016-2017)
3/1/17: Thomas and Mason went to their school, Kent Roosevelt High School, to present about FTC in class.
2/4/17: At the Kent State Qualifier, Liam was interviewed for an hour by Kent Wired journalist and KSU student Rick Pongonis about the competition.
1/4/17: The team presented their robot, and FTC/FIRST Robotics to the robotics club at Hadley and Liam’s school Bio-Med Science Academy. On the same day, Sam gave a presentation at his school’s AP Computer Science class, about the programming that the robot uses, as well as what FTC is.
12/30/16: The team attended their second scrimmage of the season at Kirtland, testing how their robot would act during the actual competition.
11/29/16: Hadley and Liam were invited to attend Ohio’s Project Lead The Way (PLTW) conference in Dayton by their teachers. This is due to Hadley’s CAD models he created in Autodesk Inventor. Hadley learned how to use Autodesk Inventor and obtained a copy of the software though PLTW. They attended this with their teachers, as well as two other classmates, who were presenting a project of their own. This proved to be an excellent way to make the team known.
11/19/16: Hadley, Thomas, and Sam went to a scrimmage in Solon, testing out the robot, which was beginning to take the shape of its final iteration. Here we learned a lot from other teams on how to improve our design.
9/19/16: Liam, Hadley, Thomas, and Sam attended the Rockwell Kickoff, where there were several workshops involving building and programming, plus a reveal of the game for the year. It was a great opportunity to get to know more teams in our area.
8/1/16-8/4/16: Hadley and Liam went to a FLL (FIRST LEGO League) camp to act as instructors for kids grades 2-6, teaching them about the FLL competition. They received a thank you letter from the administrator of the camp on 2/4/17 regarding their volunteer work.
